Volunteering at Adana: Adrienne Clarke

Long Standing Volunteer

Adrienne Clarke started to become actively involved in the rescue world when she lived in India many years ago. A group of about six of them used to visit the stands of the working horses and donkeys attending to their wounds; they would also medicate the street dogs where they were able too. When she moved to Spain, about 23 years ago, her then neighbour introduced her to Adana and She's been volunteering there ever since.

Primarily as a part of the cleaning crew but she has also fostered many dogs. In more recent years, this tends to be mostly puppies, either with their mums who have just given birth and need somewhere safe and quiet to raise their brood;or for those little ones who very often have been callously dumped on their own with no chance of survival without intervention. She loves seeing puppies grow and their characters develop even at a very young age!

Also, it's so rewarding when She sees them as happy adult dogs. Once, she met one of her former foster babies whom She hadn’t seen for about two years. After about thirty seconds she remembered her and proceeded to mug her! Given she is now a fifty-five kilogram mastín this was quite something!

Lots of hard work but very definitely worthwhile!

If you want to become a volunteer and help with the cleaning, yo are welcome to come over to the shelter, any morning at 9.00 am. Believe us, it's not as gross as you can imagine because we go every morning to clean!.
