My name is Shellie Outram and I am the Secretary for Adana.

I came over to Spain in 2007 from the UK following retirement from a 40 year career as a nurse and midwife in the NHS; my last post being a Midwifery Manager at a hospital in Cheshire.

It was 2015 when I became involved with ADANA cleaning out the kennel areas, walking the dogs and generally getting down and dirty with all the jobs necessary.... hard work but very rewarding and enjoyable.

As time went on I found myself getting more involved with the fundraising side of ADANA and at the same time a fundraising group was created by now President Susie Brown. Along with other fundraising group members, I discussed ways of promoting ADANA and raising funds for the shelter and so I co-ordinated an ADANA coffee morning in Sabinillas. I am pleased to say that our coffee mornings are still going strong on the 1st Friday of every month.

I also took on the role of Hucha (or collection boxes) co-ordinator enabling a vigilant monitoring of the huchas in Sabinillas and Duquesa. I feel very passionate about the huchas, as ADANA is a non funded, non-profit organisation and therefore relies strongly on the donations received from the public via the huchas.

In 2021 I was delighted to become an Adana Board member and became the Public Relations Officer. My new role involved promoting ADANA to the public, large organisations and a few ‘famous’ individuals along the way! By doing so, this helped Adana to sustain its financial position and enabled it to continue it’s great work.

This year in 2023 I have been fortunate to have been re-nominated to the Board as Secretary for Adana. As Secretary I am responsible for carrying out any official Adana correspondence and maintaining a register of its members, but I still maintain a role within fundraising.

I would like to thanks all members of ADANA for their support along my journey so far and hope to be involved with ADANA for many more years to come.

If you want to become a volunteer, you can help us in different ways. If you want to walk the dogs or clean the kennels, you can come up to the shelter any morning. On the other hand, if you want to volunteer differently, you can contact Shelly at adanasec17@gmail.com so she can better guide you.
