Golf Weekend and Opera Evening - 26 & 29 August

Golf Weekend and Opera Evening In Aid of Adana and Triple A

The end of August brought with it a bumper week of charity events, with the Golf Day and an Opera in the Park two hugely successful events that were fun for everyone involved. Both were organised by hard-working Marie Gill and collectively raised an impressive €10,000 for the animal charities of Adana and Triple A.

On 26th August, the prestigious Marbella Golf Club kindly gave us the use of their premises at a discounted rate to host a charity golf day, where 66 competing golfers tried their hand on its famous course. An auction and raffle after the day’s competition brought in more than €2,300, which along with Beat the Pro’s contribution of €170 and green fees raised a grand total of €4,170.

Marie’s second event was a charity concert on the 29th August, at the Torre Leoneras Amphitheatre in Benahavís, where the grounds were quickly filled with excited guests armed with picnics and deckchairs. The concert kicked off at 9.15pm and included stars from the UK: soprano Kathryn McAdam, tenor Tristan Stocks and breakthrough local acts Dani Rojas and Gary-Michael.

Accompanied by an exceptional pianist, David Matthews-Owens, Kathryn McAdam entertained the crowd with her charming renditions of famous tunes. One highlight was Tristan Stocks singing the Neapolitan classic ‘O Sole Mio.’ Originally written by Giovanni Capurro and composed by Eduardo di Capua in 1898, Tristan Stocks comically encouraged the audience to sing this internationally known anthem in the lyrics we all know best, ‘…just one Cornetto!’

The two local acts were very well received too, with Rojas performing in Spanish, much to the delight of the audience, and the multi-instrumentalist Gary-Michael playing songs ranging from Les Miserables to Baker Street on the saxophone and flute.

After an evening of music a raffle and auction were held and presented by Marie. The prizes were donated by numerous local businesses and an informative presentation made by Manifesto Design was delivered.

When Marie announced that the two events had made just under €10,000, a kind couple in the audience pledged to make up the difference. It is these acts of kindness that make working on the Costa del Sol so surprising and rewarding.

On behalf of both charities and our furry friends, we would like to thank Marie and Barry Gill, and all their helpers for their time, hard work and dedicated efforts to making this such a special and fruitful weekend; €10,000 is an incredible amount to raise and will do wonders at both of our respective shelters.

We would also like to thank Manifesto Design for their fantastic work in creating our posters, tickets and programme and we would like to extend our warmest thanks to X-Music, Royal Pianos, Blue Water Yacht Charters, Nueva Kaskada, the G.I.T.S Society, La Favorita, Lawbird, Easy Computers, Speech Financial Solutions, Powakaddy, Electronics Experience, Avalon Europe, 4DaysWalking, Euro Weekly News, Costa Del Sol Golf News and Simply Shuttles for their kind sponsorship of these events. We could not have done it without you!

Finally, thank you to everyone who came and made the week such a success and we hope it was as memorable and entertaining for you as it was for us.

The money raised for the two animal charities will be split equally and as always, every penny will go directly to the protection and care of the coast’s animals.
