25th Annual ADANA Dog Show - 26 April 2015

Once again the ADANA dog show has proved to be a rip roaring success. Taking place a few weeks earlier than in recent years, and despite the adverse weather conditions, visitors and competitors turned out in force to make our anniversary show one to remember.

With 40 stalls offering everything from doggie accessories, preserves, coffee, fencing solutions, insurance, cakes, dog grooming and satellite TV to the ever popular Tombola stall, there was something on offer for everybody. Trisha and her team on the café pulled out all the stops to keep the masses fed and watered.

Thanks once again to the Estepona Police for bringing along their dogs and treating us to a display of search and obedience, I for one am amazed at what these highly trained dogs can do, especially the Yorkshire terrier!

This years competition classes included:
* Dog most like its owner
* Dog with the waggiest tail or stump
* Señorita and Señor Estepona
* Best Ex Adana Dog
* Open obedience
* Best Trick
* Agility

The standard of entries in all classes was very high and the watching audience were treated to some fantastic displays across the three rings. We would like to thank all the judges and stewards who worked tirelessly to keep the event running to schedule. A list of class winners can be found below.

As is becoming the norm, an ADANA event has to be attended by ADANA dogs so once again Amanda Buss and her wonderful team of 18 volunteers brought the corresponding number of dogs down from the shelter to the Palacio. Each volunteer was given a photo and some information about their dog. Two dogs, Monty and Gizmo, also had a special treat, they'd been bathed the day before and spent the day being groomed and pampered by Angelika from Posy Pets. There were many comments about how well behaved all the dogs were and there was a lot of interest in many of the dogs and promises from people to come to the shelter to adopt. One lucky dog, Gizmo, was actually adopted on the day!

At the end of the show the dogs were paraded around the ring so everyone could get the chance to see what beautiful dogs we have at the shelter. All the dogs were then taken back to the shelter, passing out with exhaustion and contentment in the back of the cars. A great day was had by all and the dogs are looking forward to their next trip out. Organising the Dog Show has to be one of, if not the most, time consuming and demanding out of all the events in the ADANA calendar. The task this year was undertaken by David McNally. It was his job to organise all the classes, judges, stewards and sponsorship. Support was received from many local businesses and individuals. Sponsorship is the key to making this event a success and so we send our heartfelt thanks to everybody who has contributed in this way. David had a great deal of help from Treasurer Jayne who co-ordinated all the stalls and did much of the administration work.

The feedback that has been received following this event, from visitors and stall holders has been nothing but positive. We have been complimented on the organisation, the atmosphere and the behaviour of our dogs. Whilst we must thank every single person involved in bringing this show to fruition, David and Jayne deserve much of the credit, thank you both.

As reported in last months newsletter the grand total raised was a massive €5,300 which is an amazing result. Also the adoption of Gizmo on the day and two later adoptions as a direct result of the show only adds to its success.

Before signing off we must mention Janice Walters who agreed, at the eleventh hour to be our compere, thank you for stepping into the breach and doing a great job, and Robbie our 'sound man' for all that tech stuff! Thank you.

ADANA would also like to thank the Palacio de Congresos, the Euro Weekly News and Manifesto for their continued support of our events.
