Quiz Night - 19 Feb

The first ADANA quiz night

"Some time ago my wife Finola, and I suggested to Helen (Ellis) that Adana would benefit from a monthly quiz to earn the organisation a little bit of money. (As for several years Finola and I have been regular quiz-goers at the Animals in Need monthly quiz held at The Brasserie, Casares Golf Club, run by Paul Taylor and very successful in terms of attendance and money raised)

"We thought no more of it until we were contacted by Beth Grierson to say our name had been put forward by Helen, and would we run a monthly quiz for Adana.

"Beth, Johnny, Finola and myself met at The Irish Fiddler pub in Estepona Port last month and discussed how we would go about organising the quiz and how much we would charge for participating. Beth and Johnny were instrumental in finding the venue (Irish Fiddler) and organising things with Owen, the licensee, and in preparing and distributing posters advertising the event. Finola and I set about preparing the questions and all the accompanying paperwork (question and answer sheets etc etc) and the idea came to fruition last night at 8.00pm at The Irish Fiddler, when we hosted the first Adana Quiz.

"Trepiditious at first, about how it would go, how many people would attend (it was after all, the first quiz the four of us had ever run) we set up the tables at The Irish Fiddler, and then the people just came flooding in, until we had, in the end, 11 tables and some 40 people (including customers only there for a meal, and were willingly roped in to participate)

"We had 5 rounds of 10 questions each, on different topics, and a picture round, and the whole event lasted approximately 2 1/2 hours. We had bottle prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and a consolation prize for the lowest score. After getting off to a shaky start, we soon got into the swing of things (despite me forgetting to give out the answers at the end of each round!!)

"All in all, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, and most importantly, ADANA made €220 (€5 per head to play, and two donations from people unable to attend) which was the whole purpose of the exercise!

"A huge thank you to everyone who took part and a huge thank you to Owen and his team at The Irish Fiddler for hosting the event at no cost to Adana, and for providing 2 of the prizes on the night.

"The next quiz is scheduled for Thursday 19th March, at 8.00pm at the same venue, when Peta will be the Quizmaster, so please all Adana supporters, make sure the event is well attended."

Best regards,
Doug Proctor

I would just like to add our thanks to the Fab Four for organising this event. Clearly there was a lot of work to be done in getting this quiz off the ground. It was a great night and we are extremely greatful to everybody who took park which resulted in such a good sum being raised.

I would also like to thank Owen and staff at The Irish Fiddler, a really nice place, top level Estepona port. I did sample the food (purely for research purposes!) and it was lovely, so on the 19th March, come down, have some dinner and enjoy the quiz with us. We look forward to seeing you.
