Night at the Races - 26 March

Saturday 26th March at The Roadhouse Sports and Music Bar.

"Something different it certainly was! If you happened to be passing the Roadhouse Sports and Music Bar on the 26th March you most certainly would have heard the 50 or so race goers cheering on their favorite horses as they enjoyed the eight races that took place throughout the evening.

"Poring over the race schedule to pick out a likely winner, small bets were placed on each of the races with the last one being very special indeed. 6 of our shelter dogs (with handlers!) were filmed racing along the hillside up at the Adana shelter, it was such a fast paced race that due to some technical difficulties it was over before it could be watched on the big screen! However this did not detract from the fun that was had by all, helped I'm sure by plenty of liquid refreshment.

"Everybody who came along was incredibly generous, not only in betting on the horses, buying raffle tickets and then donating prizes back to be auctioned, but also in buying the horses/dogs for the last race, they all really got into the spirit of the evening which made the 1st Adana Race Night a huge success.

"With so much support both prior to the event and certainly on the evening, a grand total of €1335 was raised. As one of the organizers of this event, I have to admit to enduring some nerves wondering if it was going to be a success so my thanks to everybody involved especially the following, are heartfelt:
* All sponsors of horses and races (please have a look at the race schedule)
* The Roadhouse Sports and Music Bar for a great venue
* Donations of raffle prizes - Cooldeals, Ross Hegarty Hairdressing, Neli G's, Liam's Quality Butchers, Pack Instinct Dog Training and Rehabilitation
* Peter Lane our compere for the evening
* Amanda Buss and Fiona Garden for manning the tote
* Our younger volunteers, Amy Kabel for selling raffle tickets and Finn, Miles and Olafur for manning the door
* Sally Russell for taking photos and raffle prizes
* Helen Oldfield and group for folding raffle tickets
* And of course to all those who supported us on the night, your generosity knew no bounds

"Listening to the great feedback I have received it's likely that an Evening at the Races could become a permanent fixture on our fundraising calendar.

"Thank you."
