The ADANA animal shelter is located in the Estepona municipality in the Pedgrales park on the way to Casares from the Poligono Industrial in Estepona. It is 10 minutes drive from the centre of Estepona, in the outskirts of Sierra Bermeja.
The refuge can be accessed from the Municipal Park of "The Pedregales". One needs to proceed through the park to the highest part of the road.
The park of the Pedregales is a very pretty location, popular for picnics, and other social event. From the refuge, on a clear day, one can sight the African coast and Gibraltar.
We have volunteers that attend the refuge daily, to feed to the animals, clean them and to take them for walks. It is a work that takes a lot of time and requires responsibility. If you have some time and wish to help, you will be welcome. We do need other volunteers, especially those with knowledge of construction, electricity, plumbing. But anyone with a desire to help is most welcome.
ADANA does NOT support the systematic euthanasia of abandoned dogs, in fact ADANA is against this practice. Some of the dogs ADANA receives have to be put down, but only under the following circumstances:
- Incurable Illness
- Extreme behavioural problems
Animals are humanely put down with a super dose of barbiturates.
